This repository contains a simple implementation example of the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It is written in the Rust programming language and uses newline-delimited JSON for standard input/output transmission.

This is a basic test implementation currently used for learning and debugging purposes. It handles the MCP initialization handshake, basic list commands (such as tools/list, resources/list, prompts/list), and an example tool call (tools/call).

📦 Installation

1. Build the server:

cargo build

2. Configure an MCP client (e.g., Claude Desktop) to launch the executable located at target/debug/mcp-rust-sdk. Ensure that the client communicates using newline-delimited JSON for standard input/output.

For example, in claude_desktop_config.json (or other client configuration files), you can add the following entry, replacing the command path with the absolute path on your system:

3. Set the RUST_LOG environment variable (e.g., RUST_LOG=debug or RUST_LOG=trace) to control the log verbosity. Logs will be written to the $HOME/.screenpipe/logs/rust_stdio_test_logs/ directory.
