🚀 AWS Instance MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that uses the AWS SDK to retrieve and list running AWS EC2 instances in a specified region.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

• Node.js (version 18 or higher)
• An AWS account
• AWS access key and secret access key

📦 Installation

1. Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/codewithdpk/aws-mcp-server.git
cd aws-mcp-server

2. Install dependencies

npm install

3. Configure AWS credentials

Create a .env file in the project root directory and add your AWS credentials:

AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=your_access_key_id
AWS_ACCESS_SECRET_KEY=your_secret_access_key

4. Build the server

To build the server locally:

npm run build

5. Test with Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop is currently unavailable on Linux. Linux users can follow the "Build a client" tutorial to build an MCP client that can connect to the server we just built.

First, make sure you have the latest version of Claude Desktop installed. If you already have Claude Desktop, ensure it is up-to-date.

We need to configure Claude Desktop for each MCP server we want to use. To do this, open the ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json file in a text editor (create it if it doesn't exist).

Then, you'll add your server under the mcpServers key. The MCP interface elements will only appear in Claude Desktop when at least one server is correctly configured.

In this case, we'll add our single weather server like this:

Troubleshooting

• Verify that the AWS credentials have appropriate EC2 read permissions.
• Ensure that the Claude Desktop App is the latest version.
• Check that all dependencies are correctly installed.
