🚀 Slack Admin MCP Server

This is a custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to perform administrative operations on Slack channels. It offers a practical solution for managing Slack channels efficiently, streamlining the process of creating, renaming, and archiving channels.

✨ Features

The server provides the following tools:

• slack_create_channel: Create a new Slack channel (public or private).
• slack_rename_channel: Rename an existing Slack channel.
• slack_archive_channel: Archive an existing Slack channel.

📦 Installation

Obtain a Slack Bot Token

1. Navigate to https://api.slack.com/apps to create or select a Slack App.
2. In "OAuth & Permissions" > "Bot Token Scopes", ensure the following permissions are added:
   • channels:manage (Create/archive/rename public channels)
   • groups:write (Create/archive/rename private channels)
   • channels:read (Read channel information)
   • groups:read (Read private channel information)
3. Reinstall the App to your workspace for the permissions to take effect.
4. Copy the generated "Bot User OAuth Token" (starting with xoxb-).

Configure MCP

1. Add this server to your MCP configuration file (e.g., cline_mcp_settings.json).
2. Ensure that command, args, options.cwd, and env.NODE_PATH point to the correct paths.
3. Set SLACK_BOT_TOKEN in env to the token you obtained.

🔧 Development

• Install dependencies: npm install
• Build the project: npm run build
• Watch for changes and automatically build: npm run watch

Basic Usage

Through an MCP - supported client (e.g., Cline), use the use_mcp_tool command to call the following tools:

• slack_create_channel (Parameters: name, is_private (optional, default false))
• slack_rename_channel (Parameters: channel_id, new_name)
• slack_archive_channel (Parameters: channel_id)
