The mcp-server-proxy is a powerful tool designed to simplify the development and utilization of MCP Server. It seamlessly transforms the SSE transport layer of the MCP protocol into standard HTTP requests/responses, offering a more straightforward and accessible experience for users and developers.

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

The tool provides two main commands:

1. inspect Command

Used to check the content of requests and responses, mainly for studying the interaction process between MCP Client and Server:

mcp-server-proxy inspect <local_url> <target_url>

For example:

mcp-server-proxy inspect http://localhost:8080 http://example.com

2. serve Command

Start the proxy server to convert the calls from MCP Client into standard HTTP requests/responses:

mcp-server-proxy serve <local_url> <target_url>

For example:

mcp-server-proxy serve http://localhost:8080 http://example.com

Advanced Usage

The project includes a JavaScript example (located in the example/js-echo directory), which implements a simple echo function. It does not rely on the MCP-related SDK and only needs to handle a few simple HTTP requests:

1. Enter the example directory:

cd example/js-echo

This example uses the Hono framework. The core code is as follows:

2. Start the server:

node index.js

3. Start the proxy server:

# The proxy server listens on http://localhost:3002
# The proxy server forwards requests to http://localhost:3001
mcp-server-proxy serve http://localhost:3002 http://localhost:3001

4. Configure MCP Client:

• Type: sse
• Server URL: http://localhost:3002/sse

5. Call the tool:

Taking Cursor as an example, after submitting the content echo message "hello", it will recognize that the echo tool needs to be called. At this time, the 【Call Tool】 button will appear. Click this button to confirm and you can see the tool call result.
