A minimalist MCP (Model Context Protocol) client for testing tool calls in MCP servers.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

Install uv to test tool calls in the MCP server.

Installation

To install the package for use in your code:

uv pip install mcp-client-for-testing 

Usage

Using the Command Line

Test tool calls in the MCP server:

uvx mcp-client-for-testing \

Test the MCP client with echo-mcp-server-for-testing using uvx:

🛠️ Development

Install from Source

1. Clone the repository: git clone git@github.com:piebro/mcp-client-for-testing.git
2. Navigate to the root directory: cd mcp-client-for-testing
3. Install in development mode: uv pip install -e .

Format and Check Code

Use ruff to format and check the code:

uv run ruff format
uv run ruff check --fix

Build with uv

Build the package:

uv build

Release a New Version

To release a new version to PyPI, create and push a new Git tag:

1. Switch to the main branch and get the current version:

   git checkout main
   git pull origin main
   git describe --tags
   

2. Create and push a new Git tag:

   git tag v0.2.0
   git push origin v0.2.0
   

The GitHub Actions workflow will automatically build and publish the package to PyPI when a new tag is pushed. The version number of the Python package will be directly derived from the Git tag.
