This repository contains a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Autodesk Fusion 360. It enables AI assistants (such as Claude) to directly interact with Fusion 360 via the MCP protocol.

This server is implemented as an add-in for Fusion 360, exposing the capabilities of Fusion 360 to external systems through the MCP protocol. This allows AI agents to:

1. Access information about the current design.
2. Create and modify design elements.
3. Receive context-specific prompts related to CAD tasks.

The repository includes:

1. MCPserve/ - A Fusion 360 add-in that implements the MCP server.
2. client.py - A testing tool to verify the server's functionality.
3. install_mcp_for_fusion.py - A helper script to install the MCP package into Fusion 360's Python environment.

🔧 Technical Details

The MCP server runs within Fusion 360 and exposes a communication channel via the MCP protocol, enabling AI agents to:

1. Access resources - Obtain basic information, components, parameters, etc., of the current design.
2. Use tools - Perform operations such as creating sketches, adding parameters, or displaying messages.
3. Get prompts - Receive prompt templates specifically for CAD-related tasks.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Autodesk Fusion 360
• Python 3.7+ (for installation and testing)
• MCP Python SDK: pip install "mcp[cli]" (must be installed in Fusion 360's Python environment)

Installation Steps

1. Install MCP in Fusion 360's Python Environment

Fusion 360 uses its own Python environment, separate from the system Python. The MCP package must be installed in this environment.

Using the installer script (recommended):

python install_mcp_for_fusion.py

This script will:

1. Find all Python installations of Fusion 360 on the computer.
2. Install the MCP package with the CLI plugin for each installation.
3. Verify the installation's success.

Manual installation: If the installer script is unavailable, you can install the package manually:

1. Locate the Python executable of Fusion 360 (usually in Autodesk\webdeploy\production\[version]\Python).
2. Install the package:

"[Fusion Python Path]\python.exe" -m pip install "mcp[cli]"

2. Install the Fusion 360 Add-in

1. In Fusion 360, click the "Add-Ins" option in the menu bar.
2. Select "Load from File".
3. Navigate to the MCPserve folder and select the .py file for installation.

💻 Usage Examples

The MCP server allows AI assistants to interact with Fusion 360 in the following ways:

• Access design data: AI can query basic information, component hierarchies, and parameters of the current project.
• Perform operations: AI can trigger predefined commands, such as creating new sketches or adding constraints.

Basic Usage
