🚀 MCP Thinking Tool

MCP-Think is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that implements the "Thinking Tool" suitable for Large Language Models (LLMs). This tool allows LLMs to record and retrieve their thinking processes during inference.

📦 Installation

There are multiple ways to install and run MCP-Think:

Automatic Installation via Smithery

To automatically install mcp-think for Claude Desktop via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @iamwavecut/mcp-think --client claude

1. Pre-built Binaries (Recommended for Standalone Use)

There are ready-to-use binaries automatically built for Linux, Windows, and macOS (amd64 & arm64) on the GitHub Releases page. This is the simplest way to get started if you don't need to modify the code.

• macOS/Linux Automatic Installation Script: The script will automatically detect your operating system and architecture, download the appropriate binary, and guide you through the installation process.
• Manual Installation (including Windows):
  1. Go to the Releases page.
  2. Download the appropriate binary for your system (e.g., think-tool-linux-amd64, think-tool-win.exe, or think-tool-macos).
  3. Move the binary to a suitable location and ensure it is executable.

2. Installation Using Docker

If you prefer to use Docker, you can run the following commands:

docker pull ghcr.io/iamwavecut/mcp-think:latest
docker run -it ghcr.io/iamwavecut/mcp-think:latest

3. Installation from Source Code

If you wish to compile from source code, clone the repository and run:

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Commands

• Start the Server:

  python main.py --start
  

• Stop the Server:

  python main.py --stop
  

• Reset Data:

  python main.py --reset
  

Configuration

You can edit the config.json file to adjust server settings, such as endpoints, log levels, etc.

Integration into Cursor

To use MCP-Think in Cursor, follow these steps:

1. Install and configure the MCP-Think server to ensure it is running locally or in the cloud.
2. In Cursor's settings, specify MCP-Think as the thinking tool:
   • Open Cursor's settings menu.
   • Go to "Rules" > "User Rules".
3. Add the following rules to enable the thinking tool:

Before performing any action or responding to the user, use the thinking tool as a temporary draft to:

List specific rules applicable to the current request.
Check if all required information has been collected.
Verify that the planned action complies with all policies.
Iterate through tool results to ensure correctness.

Here are some examples of iterating through tool results:

Check cancellation rules:

Is it within 24 hours of booking?
If not, check the ticket class and insurance.


Verify that there are no flown or past flight segments.
Plan: Collect missing information, verify rules, and obtain confirmation.

Need the user ID to check:

Membership level to determine baggage fees.
What payment methods exist in the profile.


Baggage fee calculation:

Economy class × 3 passengers.
If it's a regular member: One free suitcase per person → 3 extra suitcases = $150.
If it's a silver member: Two free suitcases per person → No extra baggage fees = $0.
If it's a gold member: Three free suitcases per person → No extra baggage fees = $0.


Payment rule verification:

Use at most one travel coupon, one credit card, and three gift cards.
All payment methods must exist in the profile.
The balance of the travel coupon will be wasted.


Plan:


Get the user ID.
Verify the membership level to determine baggage fees.
Check what payment methods exist in the profile and whether their combinations are allowed.
Calculate the total cost: Ticket price + any baggage fees.
Obtain explicit confirmation for the reservation.
