🚀 JIRA MCP Server

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides tools for interacting with JIRA. It allows you to retrieve tickets in the active Sprint and detailed issue information through the MCP interface.

✨ Features

The server offers the following tools:

1. list-sprint-tickets: Retrieve all tickets in the active Sprint of a specified project.

   • Required parameter: projectKey (string)

2. get-ticket-details: Get detailed information about a specific issue.

   • Required parameter: issueKey (string)

3. add-comment: Add a comment to a specific issue.

   • Required parameter: issueKey (string)
   • Required parameter: comment (string)

4. link-tickets: Link two issues using the 'related to' relationship.

   • Required parameter: sourceIssueKey (string)
   • Required parameter: targetIssueKey (string)

5. update-description: Update the description of a specific issue.

   • Required parameter: issueKey (string)
   • Required parameter: description (string)

6. list-child-issues: Retrieve all child issues of a parent issue.

   • Required parameter: parentKey (string)

7. create-sub-ticket: Create a child issue (sub-task) for a parent issue.

   • Required parameter: parentKey (string)
   • Required parameter: summary (string)
   • Optional parameter: description (string)
   • Optional parameter: issueType (string) - The name of the sub-task issue type (e.g., 'Sub-task')

📦 Installation

1. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

2. Build the TypeScript code: This step is only required when using Cline on Windows because there is currently an issue with executing npx on Windows with Cline.

   npm run build
   

3. Configure MCP parameters in the Claude application settings file (usually located at ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS or %APPDATA%/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json on Windows):

📚 Documentation

You need to configure the following environment variables in the MCP settings:

1. JIRA_HOST: The URL of your Atlassian domain (e.g., https://your-company.atlassian.net)
2. JIRA_EMAIL: The email of your JIRA account
3. JIRA_API_TOKEN: Your JIRA API token.
   • You can generate an API token from Atlassian Account Settings

Basic Usage

After configuration, you can use these tools in Claude through the MCP interface:

List Sprint Tickets

To retrieve all tickets in the active Sprint of a project:

🔧 Technical Details

The server is written in TypeScript and uses:

• @modelcontextprotocol/sdk: The SDK for the MCP protocol
• node-fetch: For sending HTTP requests
• dotenv: To load environment variables

To run this project, follow these steps:

1. Clone the repository.
2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Start the server:

   npm start
   

Error Handling

The tool handles the following errors:

• Invalid project key or issue key
• Network errors
• Invalid comments or other input parameters

Error messages will be returned in JSON format, containing an error field.
