๐Ÿš€ MCP Server Template Generator

mcpc is a command-line tool designed to generate templates for MCP (Model Context Protocol) server projects. It helps you quickly set up a well-structured and well-configured project.

๐Ÿš€ Quick Start

The basic command format is as follows:

mcpc project_name [options]

Available options:

  • -l, --language: Select the programming language (py/python, ts/typescript, default is typescript).
  • -t, --tool: Select the package management tool:
    • For TypeScript: pnpm (default), yarn, npm.
    • For Python: uv (default).

Example:

# Create a TypeScript project named 'weather-api' using pnpm
mcpc weather-api -l ts -t pnpm

# Create a Python project named 'mcp-server' using uv
mcpc mcp-server -l py -t uv

โœจ Features

  • Generate MCP server templates for TypeScript or Python.
  • Support multiple package management tools (TypeScript: pnpm, yarn, npm; Python: uv).
  • Automatically install dependencies.
  • Validate system dependencies.
  • Initialize Git repositories.
  • Provide a complete project structure following the official MCP documentation.
  • Offer a Python test mode to verify server functionality without Claude.
  • Include configuration files and best practices.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Installation

Prerequisites

  • Rust and Cargo (can be installed via rustup).

Build and Install

Use the Make command:

# Build and install in one step
make install

Or use Cargo directly:

# Install from the local repository
cargo install --path .

๐Ÿ’ป Usage Examples

Basic Usage

mcpc project_name [options]

Advanced Usage

# Create a TypeScript project named 'weather-api' using pnpm
mcpc weather-api -l ts -t pnpm

# Create a Python project named 'mcp-server' using uv
mcpc mcp-server -l py -t uv

Using the Generated Project

Python

# Activate the virtual environment
source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows, use: .venv\Scripts\activate

# Install dependencies (if not installed)
uv pip install -r requirements.txt

# Test server functionality without Claude
python server.py --test

# Start the server integrated with Claude
python server.py

TypeScript

# Install dependencies (if not installed)
pnpm install # Or: yarn / npm install

# Build the project
pnpm run build # Or: yarn build / npm run build

# Start the server
node build/index.js

Integration with Claude Desktop

To integrate this project with Claude Desktop, add the following content to Claude's configuration file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "weather": {
      "command": "uv", // Or other package management tools
      "name": "your-server-name",
      "projectPath": "/path/to/your/project"
    }
  }
}

Development Instructions

Command-line Tool

Use the following Make commands for development:

# Build the project
make build

# Start the test server
make server

# Run unit tests
make test

# Package and release
make dist

Building from Source

# Clone the repository and install dependencies
git clone https://github.com/your-repository.git
cd your-repository
cargo install --path .

Through the above steps, you can successfully use the mcpc tool to generate MCP server projects and develop and deploy them as needed.
