To Do MCP Server

🚀 Todo Application Built with MCP Server

This is a simple Todo application built on Express.js using a modular MVC architecture. It integrates natural language processing (leveraging the Google Gemini API), MongoDB for persistent storage, and the MCP protocol (Server-Sent Events for real-time updates).

• Add to-do items using natural language (e.g., “Add a task to buy milk”).
• List all to-do items (optionally including completed ones).
• Mark a to-do item as completed by its MongoDB ID.
• Delete a to-do item by its MongoDB ID.
• Receive real-time updates via Server-Sent Events (SSE) and the MCP protocol.

📋 Prerequisites

• Node.js (v18 or higher)
• MongoDB Atlas cluster (credentials required)
• Google Gemini API Key (obtain from Google AI Studio)

📦 Installation

Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/theatulanand/to-do-mcp-server.git
cd todo-mcp-single

Install dependencies

npm install

Set up environment variables

Create a .env file in the root directory:

PORT=3000
MONGO_URI=URI
GEMINI_API_KEY=

💻 Usage Examples

Start the server

npm start

You should see the following output:

Connected to MongoDB (via Mongoose)
Server running at http://localhost:3000

To stop the server, press Ctrl + C.

Send a POST request to /api/command with a JSON body

Real-time updates

Connect to /sse to receive real-time updates. (Requires an MCP-compatible client.)

⚠️ Important Note

• Ensure that the MongoDB connection string (MONGO_URI) and Google Gemini API Key are correctly configured.
• For handling large amounts of data or high-concurrency requests, it is recommended to perform appropriate performance optimization and load balancing configuration.
