This guide will assist you in installing and configuring the Supabase MCP Server step by step.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

1. Python 3.12 or a higher version installed.
   • You can check your Python version by running python --version.
2. Compatible MCP clients:
   • Cursor (recommended)
   • Windsurf
   • Cline
   • Claude Desktop

Installation

Method 1: Using pipx (Recommended)

pipx install supabase-mcp-server

Method 2: Using uv

uv pip install supabase-mcp-server

Configuration

Required Environment Variables

Required:

• SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF: Your Supabase project ID.
• SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD: Your database password.
• SUPABASE_REGION: The AWS region where your project is hosted.

Optional:

• SUPABASE_ACCESS_TOKEN: A personal access token for API management.
• SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY: The service role key for the Auth Admin SDK.

Global Configuration on Windows

1. Create the configuration directory:

mkdir -Force "$env:APPDATA\supabase-mcp"

2. Create and edit the .env file:

notepad "$env:APPDATA\supabase-mcp\.env"

3. Add the following configuration:

SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF=Your project ID
SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD=Your database password
SUPABASE_REGION=us-east-1
SUPABASE_ACCESS_TOKEN=Your access token
SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY=Your service role key

Where to Get Your Project Details

1. Project Reference:
   • Visit your Supabase project URL: https://supabase.com/dashboard/project/<project-ref>
   • project-ref is the identifier in the URL.
2. Database Password:
   • Set when creating the project.
   • Or find it in Project Settings → Database.
3. Access Token:
   • Generate it at https://supabase.com/dashboard/account/tokens.
4. Service Role Key:
   • Find it in Project Settings → API → Project API keys.

Integration with Cursor

1. Open Cursor.
2. Go to Settings → Features → MCP Servers.
3. Add a new server configuration as follows:

Name: supabase
Type: command
Command: C:\Users\<usuario>\.local\bin\supabase-mcp-server.exe

To find the exact path of the executable file:

where.exe supabase-mcp-server

Verification

Step 1: Verify Installation

Open a terminal and run:

supabase-mcp-server

If there are no error messages, the installation is successful.

Step 2: Verify Configuration

Check that all environment variables are set correctly and ensure the server is running.

Troubleshooting
