📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.8+
• A GitHub personal access token (with appropriate permissions)

Setup

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/jasona7/mcp_github_discussions.git
   cd mcp_github_discussions
   

2. Install the dependencies:

   pip install requests
   

3. Set the GitHub token in the environment variables:

   export GITHUB_TOKEN=your_github_personal_access_token
   

💻 Usage Examples

Starting the Server

Run the server as follows:

python scripts/mcp/github/mcp_github_server.py

The server will start on localhost:8004 by default.

Available Tools

The tools provided by the server include:

• search_repositories: Search for repositories based on various criteria.
• get_repository_details: Obtain detailed information about a repository.
• get_repository_issues: Fetch the issues of a repository.

📚 Documentation

The server can be configured via environment variables:

• GITHUB_TOKEN: Your GitHub personal access token.
• MCP_HOST: The host to which the server binds (default: localhost).
• MCP_PORT: The port to which the server binds (default: 8004).

🔧 Technical Details

• Connection Refused: Ensure that the server is running and the port is not blocked by the firewall.
• Authentication Errors: Check if the GitHub token has the necessary permissions.
• Rate Limiting: The GitHub API has rate limits; the server will handle these situations, but it may slow down during periods of high usage.
