🚀 AIBD Development Container

A pre - configured development environment based on VS Code Dev Containers, integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server for file system and Shell operations in Claude - assisted development.

This repository provides a ready - to - use development container with the following features:

• Create a consistent and isolated development environment.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Visual Studio Code
• Remote - Containers extension for VS Code
• Docker Desktop
• Windows users need to enable WSL2

Installation Steps

1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.com/gergelyszerovay/aibd-devcontainer.git
cd aibd-devcontainer

2. Open in VS Code

Open the cloned repository in the terminal. VS Code will prompt you to reopen the folder in the container. Click "Reopen in Container" to proceed.

Alternatively, you can:

1. Click the green button at the bottom - left corner of VS Code.
2. Select "Reopen in Container" from the menu.

3. Wait for the Container to Build

VS Code will build and start your development container. The first run may take a few minutes. Subsequent starts will be faster.

4. Access Project Files

The container mounts a Docker volume at the /volume directory:

cd volume

Place your project files in this directory. You can:

• Clone an existing repository: git clone https://github.com/your - username/your - project.git
• Create new files directly in this directory.

5. Connect Claude to the Container

To connect Claude to the development container:

1. Configure Claude Desktop to use the MCP server. Add the following to the claude_desktop_config.json file:

2. Restart Claude Desktop to establish the connection.

Container Configuration

Dev Container JSON Configuration

The .devcontainer/devcontainer.json file defines the configuration of the development container:

This configuration:

• Uses the official Microsoft TypeScript/Node.js image.
• Forwards port 3100 for the MCP server.
• Runs setup scripts after container creation and on each startup.
• Creates a persistent Docker volume to store project files.

Installation Script

The .devcontainer/install.sh script runs after the container is first created:

sudo chown -R $USER:$GROUPS /volume

It ensures that the /volume directory has the correct user permissions.

Startup Script

The .devcontainer/start.sh script runs on each startup:

npm install -g typescript@latest ts-node@latest

It installs the latest TypeScript and ts - node toolchains.

💡 Usage Tip

• The Node.js and npm versions inside the container are determined by the image. If you need to customize them, modify the image configuration.
• It is recommended to run npm install after the first startup to ensure that project dependencies are loaded correctly.
