🚀 MCP Installation Tool

The MCP Installation Tool is designed to streamline the process of finding, configuring, and installing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. It offers a set of useful commands to manage MCP servers efficiently.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

• Node.js (v14.0.0 or higher)
• npm or yarn
• SMITHERY_API_KEY (https://smithery.ai/)

📦 Installation

You can install the MCP Installation Tool using the following commands:

npm install @bbangjo/mcp-installer
npx @bbangjo/mcp-installer --client <client-type> --key <your-smithery-api-key>

Here:

• <client-type>: Currently supported client types are 'cursor' or 'claude'.
• <your-smithery-api-key>: Enter your Smithery API key.

Example:

npx @bbangjo/mcp-installer --client cursor --key your_smithery_api_key_here

After successful installation, you will see the prompt message "✅ MCP server installed successfully."

⚠️ Important Note

Depending on the client type, the configuration file will be created in the following locations:

• Cursor:
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Cursor\mcp.json
  • macOS: ~/.cursor/mcp.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Cursor/mcp.json
• Claude:
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

✨ Features

The MCP Installation Tool provides the following features:

• find-mcp: Find Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers from the registry.
• collect-config: Collect configurations for connecting to MCP servers.
• install-mcp: Install MCP servers to your local machine.

💻 Local Setup

1. Install dependencies:

npm install

2. Set environment variables: Create a .env file in the project root directory and add the following content:

SMITHERY_API_KEY=your_api_key_here

3. Run the server:

npm run build
node build/index.js

When the server starts successfully, the prompt message "MCP Finder Server is running on stdio" will be displayed.
