📦 Installation

1. Clone the Repository

Clone this repository to your local machine.

2. Install Dependencies

npm install

3. Build

Compile the TypeScript code.

npm run build

Configuration Guide

API Key

Ensure you have an API key from OpenRouter.

MCP Settings

Add the following configuration block to your MCP client settings file (e.g., for VS Code Remote/Codespaces or Claude Desktop App):

• Replace /home/<user>/Cline/MCP/openrouter-search-server/build/index.js with the actual absolute path of the built file in your system if you cloned the repository elsewhere.
• Replace YOUR_OPENROUTER_API_KEY_HERE with your actual OpenRouter API key.

⚠️ Important Note

The server requires the environment variable OPENROUTER_API_KEY to be set. Do not directly commit the API key to the code or repository.

Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Once the server is configured and running (either by manually executing npm start in its directory or automatically starting it through the MCP client), you can use the web_search tool.

Tool Name: web_search

Server Name: openrouter-search (or other keys you used in the MCP settings)

Input Parameters:

• query (string, required): The search query you want to execute.

Output Results:

• Contains the plain text response generated by the google/gemini-2.5-pro-preview-03-25 model of the OpenRouter API.
