This is a modular implementation of an Outlook MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, which is used to connect Claude with Microsoft Outlook via the Microsoft Graph API.

This modular Outlook MCP server enables seamless integration between Claude and Microsoft Outlook using the Microsoft Graph API. Below are the steps and details to get you started.

📦 Installation

Configuration

To configure the server, edit the config.js file to modify the following settings:

• Server name and version
• Test mode settings
• Authentication parameters
• Email field selection
• API endpoints

💻 Usage Examples

Usage on Claude Desktop

1. Copy the example configuration from claude-config-sample.json to your Claude Desktop configuration.
2. Restart Claude Desktop.
3. Use the authenticate tool for Microsoft authentication.
4. Manage your Outlook account using the email tools.

Stand - alone Operation

To test the server, use the following command:

./test-modular-server.sh

This will directly connect to the server using the MCP Inspector, allowing you to test the available tools.

Authentication Process

1. Start the local authentication server on port 3333 (using outlook-auth-server.js).
2. Use the authenticate tool to obtain the authentication URL.
3. Complete the authentication in the browser.
4. Tokens are stored in ~/.outlook-mcp-tokens.json.

Troubleshooting

• Authentication Issues: Check the token file and authentication server logs.
• OData Filter Errors: Review the escape sequences in the server logs.
• API Call Failures: Check the detailed error messages in the response.

Server Expansion

To add more features:

1. Create a new module directory (e.g., calendar/).
2. Implement the tool handlers in separate files.
3. Export the tool definitions from the module index file.
4. Import and add the tools to the TOOLS array in index.js.
