🚀 Running a Remote MCP Server on Cloudflare

Let's set up a remote MCP server running on Cloudflare Workers and integrate OAuth login functionality!

📦 Installation

# Clone the repository
git clone git@github.com:cloudflare/ai.git

# Install dependencies
cd ai
npm install

# Run locally
npx nx dev remote-mcp-server

You should be able to open http://localhost:8787/ in your browser.

💻 Usage Examples

Connecting the MCP Inspector to Your Server

To explore the new MCP API, you can use the MCP Inspector.

• Start it using the command: npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector
• In the inspector, switch the transport type to SSE, enter http://localhost:8787/sse in the URL field, and click "Connect".
• You'll be redirected to a simulated login page (email and password). Enter any valid email and password to log in.
• After successful login, you should be redirected back to the MCP inspector and be able to list and call any defined tools!

Connecting Claude Desktop to the Local MCP Server

Using the inspector is great, but what we really want to do is connect it to Claude! Follow Anthropic's Quick Start Guide, open Settings > Developer > Edit Profile in Claude Desktop. After finding the profile, replace its contents in a text editor with the following configuration:

This will run a local proxy, allowing Claude to communicate with your MCP server via HTTP. When opening Claude, the browser window should start automatically and allow you to log in. You should see a list of available tools in the bottom - right corner of the screen. Enter appropriate instructions as prompted, and Claude will call MCP tools to respond.

🚀 Deployment to Cloudflare

1. npx wrangler kv namespace create OAUTH_KV
2. Create a KV namespace named OAUTH_KV.
3. Follow the prompts to complete the deployment process.

🔧 Debugging

• If needed, you can use the following command for debugging:

npx wrangler logs --follow
