🚀 Snowflake MCP Server

This is an implementation of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides functionality to interact with Snowflake databases. The server allows you to run SQL queries and use the data analysis results presented in the memo as resources.

Resources

The server exposes a dynamic resource:

• memo://insights: A continuously updated memo of data analysis results, summarizing various insights discovered during the analysis process.
  • The memo is automatically updated as new insights are discovered.

Tools

The server provides six core tools:

Query Tools

• read_query

  • Execute a SELECT query to read data from the database.
  • Input:
    • query (string): The SELECT SQL statement to execute.
  • Return: The query results as an array of objects.

• write_query (with the --allow-write flag)

  • Execute an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE query.
  • Input:
    • query (string): The SQL modification statement.
  • Return: { affected_rows: number }

• create_table (with the --allow-write flag)

  • Create a new table in the database.
  • Input:
    • query (string): The CREATE TABLE SQL statement.
  • Return: Confirmation of table creation.

Schema Tools

• list_tables

  • Get a list of all tables in the database.
  • No input required.
  • Return: An array of table names.

• describe-table

  • View column information for a specific table.
  • Input:
    • table_name (string): The name of the table to describe (can be a fully qualified name).
  • Return: An array of column definitions containing column names and types.

Analysis Tools

• append_insight
  • Add new data analysis results to the memo resource.
  • Input:
    • insight (string): The data insights discovered during the analysis process.
  • Return: Confirmation that the insights have been added.
  • Trigger an update to the memo://insights resource.

🚀 Quick Start

Installation via Smithery

To automatically install the Snowflake server for Claude Desktop via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp_snowflake_server --client claude

This server can run without cloning or installing the repository.
