🚀 Valyu MCP Server

The Valyu MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool that enables AI models to obtain high-quality context information through the Valyu API. It includes full-text retrieval capabilities for Wikipedia, arXiv papers (ideal for finance and research fields), and web searches.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

Before setting up the MCP Server, ensure the following:

1. Python 3.10+
2. Claude Desktop (latest version)
3. Valyu API Key (obtainable from Valyu Exchange)

To check your Python version, run the following command:

python --version

📦 Installation

Option 1: Automated Installation (Recommended)

1. Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/ValyuNetwork/valyu-mcp.git
cd valyu-mcp

2. Run the setup script

chmod +x setup.sh  
./setup.sh       

The setup script will perform the following actions:

• Create and activate a virtual environment
• Install all dependencies
• Prompt you to enter your Valyu API Key
• Create the necessary .env file
• Provide instructions for updating the Claude Desktop configuration

Option 2: Manual Installation

If you prefer manual setup or if automated installation is not available in your environment, follow these steps:

1. Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/ValyuNetwork/valyu-mcp.git
cd valyu-mcp

2. Create and activate a virtual environment

python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # macOS/Linux
.venv\Scripts\activate    # Windows

3. Install dependencies

pip install -r requirements.txt

4. Create a .env file in the project root directory

echo "VALYU_API_KEY=your-api-key-here" > .env

5. Open your Claude Desktop configuration file for editing

   • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

   If the configuration file does not exist:

   1. Open Claude Desktop
   2. Go to settings
   3. Enable developer mode in the developer tab
   4. The configuration file will be generated automatically

   You can open this file in VS Code using the following commands:

   code ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json  # macOS
   code %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json  # Windows (PowerShell)
   

6. Add the following entry under mcpServers

💻 Usage Examples

Running the MCP Server

To run the MCP Server, refer to the Valyu Documentation.

Verifying the Installation

1. Ensure all dependencies are installed correctly.
2. Activate your virtual environment (if applicable).
3. Run the following command to start the MCP Server:

python -m valyu.mcp_server

Debugging Logs

Check the console output for any error or warning messages. Ensure that your API Key is correct and valid.

Troubleshooting

• Problem: Unable to connect to the Valyu service.
  • Solution: Check your network connection, ensure your API Key is valid, and refer to the Valyu Status Page.
• Problem: Configuration file not found.
  • Solution: Ensure the configuration file path is correct and restart the server.
