🚀 Neon MCP Server

The Neon MCP Server enables interaction with Neon via natural - language commands using Claude Desktop or any MCP client.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a newly standardized protocol for managing context between large language models (LLMs) and external systems. In this repository, we provide an installer and an MCP server for Neon.

This allows you to use Claude Desktop or any MCP client to interact with Neon via natural - language commands, such as:

• Let's create a new Postgres database named "my-database". Then create a table named users in it, with the following fields: id, name, email, and password.
• I want to run migrations on my project "my-project" to change the users table and add a new column "created_at".
• Can you give me a summary of all my Neon projects and the data in each project?

📦 Installation

Automatic Installation via Smithery:

To automatically install the Neon MCP server via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install neon --client claude

Requirements

• Node.js >= v18.0.0
• Claude Desktop
• Neon API Key - You can generate it in the Neon console. Learn more or Quick access

Local Usage

1. Run npx @neondatabase/mcp-server-neon setup to initialize the configuration.
2. After configuration, run npx @neondatabase/mcp-server-neon start to start the server.

Development with MCP CLI Client

2. Install dependencies: npm install

Testing

1. Create a virtual environment and install dependencies:

python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # Use .venv\Scripts\activate on Windows
pip install -r requirements.txt

2. Run tests:

pytest tests/

3. Cover all tests:

pytest tests/ -v --coverager
