This is a server for managing and interacting with Notion's note-based Model Context Protocol (MCP). This TypeScript implementation demonstrates the concept of MCP, efficiently interacting with Notion pages by integrating resources, tools, and prompts.

• Access notes: List and retrieve Notion pages as note:// URIs, marked with UUIDs.
• Metadata: Each resource includes a title, description, and body content in Markdown format.
• MIME type: The body content can be accessed in text/markdown format.

Tools

• Search notes: Use the search_notes tool to search Notion pages by query string.
  • Input: Query text for filtering relevant pages.
  • Output: Markdown content of matching notes.

Prompts

• Summarize notes: Generate summaries for specific Notion pages.
  • Available prompts:
    • summarize_note: Summarize a specified note by URI.
    • suggest_refactor: Propose structural improvement suggestions.
    • suggest_fix: Identify potential fixes.
    • suggest_enhance: Recommend enhancements to improve note quality.
  • Input: Notion page URI.
  • Output: Structured messages for summaries and improvements.

🚧 Development

Setup

Install dependencies:

pnpm install

Build the project:

pnpm build

Automatically rebuild in development mode:

pnpm watch

⚙️ Configuration

To configure the server to work with Notion:

• Set environment variables:
  • ROOT_PAGE: The root page ID of your Notion workspace.

📥 Installation for Claude Desktop

To use this server on Claude Desktop, add the following configuration:

• MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
• Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Debugging

To debug and troubleshoot the MCP server, use the MCP inspector. Start the inspector:

pnpm inspector

The inspector provides a browser-based interface to inspect server communication via standard input and output.

🔧 Technical Details

• Notion integration: Supported by @texonom/nclient and @texonom/cli.
• MCP SDK: Implements @modelcontextprotocol/sdk for server operations.

🌐 Remote Deployment

The current server uses SSEServerTransport for remote communication, supporting the use of shared servers. Ensure that the necessary dependencies are installed and the server is correctly configured for remote deployment.

💻 Usage Examples

To run the server using SSEServerTransport, run the following command:

npx -y supergateway --port 8000 --stdio "npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem /some/folder"

Please replace /some/folder with the appropriate path.
