🚀 VSCode MCP Server and Extension

This monorepo contains the VSCode MCP server and its accompanying VSCode extension, enabling AI agents and assistants (such as Goose or Claude) to interact with VSCode via the Model Context Protocol.

⚙️ Configuration Instructions

🛠️ Goose Desktop Settings

• ID: code-mcp
• Name: VS Code
• Description: Allows interaction with VS Code via the Model Context Protocol
• Command: npx vscode-mcp-server

🛠️ Claude Desktop Configuration

Add the following content to your Claude Desktop configuration file (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

🛠️ Available Tools

The VSCode MCP server provides the following tools for AI agents to interact with VS Code:

create_diff

Create and display the differences in file modifications:

• Show a preview of the changes before applying them.
• Require user approval.
• Only applicable to existing files.

open_file

Open a file in the VS Code editor:

• Used to view newly created or modified files.

open_project

Open a project folder in VS Code:

• Set the working directory for the AI agent.

check_extension_status

Check if the extension is installed and responding properly.

get_extension_port

Get the port number of the VSCode MCP extension.

list_available_projects

Display projects from the port registration file.
