🚀 Weather MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides weather information for cities around the world.

✨ Features

• Retrieve the current weather for any city.
• Provide information such as temperature, weather conditions, humidity, and wind force.
• Fallback to mock data when API requests fail.

📋 Requirements

• Node.js (v14 or higher)
• npm or yarn
• OpenWeather API key (optional - mock data will be used if not provided)

📦 Installation

1. Clone this repository.
2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Build the server:

   npm run build

Basic Usage - Run Locally

API Key and Mock Data

This server has two operating modes:

1. With API Key: When an OpenWeather API key is provided via the OPENWEATHER_API_KEY environment variable, the server will fetch real-time weather data from the OpenWeather API.
2. Without API Key: If no API key is provided, the server will automatically use real data for a predefined set of cities (London, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Sydney) and default mock data for other cities.

To obtain an OpenWeather API key:

1. Sign up at OpenWeather.
2. Navigate to the "API keys" section of your account.
3. Generate a new API key or use an existing one.

The mock data mode is ideal for development, testing, or scenarios where real-time weather data is not required.

Available Tools - get_current_weather

Retrieve the current weather information for a specified city.

Explanation:

• location: Identifier for the city and its corresponding country.
• date and time: The time and date when the weather data was fetched.
• temperature: Current temperature and the feels-like temperature.
• weather: Current weather conditions, including the main description and icon.
• wind: Wind speed and direction (in degrees, 0 - 360 degrees).
• humidity: Relative humidity percentage.
• source: Data source identifier, which can be openweather or mock data.
