Query Tools

• read_query: Execute a SELECT query to read data from the database.

  • Input: query (string) - The SELECT SQL statement to execute.
  • Return: Query results as an array of objects.

• write_query: Execute an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE query.

  • Input: query (string) - The SQL statement to modify the database.
  • Return: { affected_rows: number }

• create_table: Create a new database table.

  • Input: query (string) - The CREATE TABLE SQL statement.
  • Return: Confirmation that the table has been created.

Schema Tools

• list_tables: Get a list of all tables in the database.

  • No input required.
  • Return: An array of table names.

• describe_table: View the schema information of a specific table.

  • Input: table_name (string) - The name of the table to describe.
  • Return: An array of column definitions, including column names and types.

Analysis Tools

• append_insight: Add a new business insight to the report resource.
  • Input: insight (string) - The business insight discovered in data analysis.
  • Return: Confirmation that the insight has been added.
  • Triggers an update to the memo://insights resource.

📚 Resources

The server exposes one resource:

• memo://insights: A continuously updated business insight report that aggregates all insights discovered during the analysis process.
  • Automatically updates when new insights are added via the append-insight tool.

🔧 Technical Details

This MCP server directly implements the Model Context Protocol without relying on any external SDKs. It uses the following libraries:

• mysql2: For MySQL database connection.
• yargs: For command-line argument parsing.
• readline: For handling standard input and output communication.

The server follows the JSON-RPC 2.0 protocol to communicate with Claude, handling requests for tool lists, resource lists, and tool execution.

⚙️ Configuration

The MySQL MCP server is configured using environment variables. Create a .env file in the root directory with the following variables:
