🚀 MCP Web Research Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed for web research. It brings real-time information to Claude, enabling easy research on any topic.

🚀 Quick Start

Just start a conversation with Claude and send a prompt that requires web research. If you want to use our preset prompt for in - depth web research, click the paperclip icon in the chat input box in Claude Desktop, then select Choose an integration → webresearch → agentic - research.

📦 Installation

First, make sure you have downloaded and installed the Claude Desktop app and have npm installed.

Next, add the following content to your claude_desktop_config.json file (on Mac, this file is located at ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

This configuration allows Claude Desktop to automatically start the web research MCP server when needed.

Basic Usage

Just start a conversation with Claude and send a prompt that requires web research.

Advanced Usage

If you want to use our preset prompt for in - depth web research, click the paperclip icon in the chat input box in Claude Desktop, then select Choose an integration → webresearch → agentic - research.

Tools

1. search_google
   • Perform a Google search and extract the results.
   • Parameters: { query: string }
2. visit_page
   • Visit a web page and extract its content.
   • Parameters: { url: string, takeScreenshot?: boolean }
3. take_screenshot
   • Capture a screenshot of the current page.
   • No parameters required.

Prompts

agentic - research

A guiding research prompt to help Claude conduct thorough web research. This prompt instructs Claude to:

• First perform a broad search to understand the topic background.
• Prioritize using high - quality, authoritative sources.
• Refine the research direction step - by - step based on the findings.
• Keep interacting with you and let you guide the research.
• Always cite sources with URLs.

Resources

We expose two things through MCP resources: (1) captured web page screenshots, and (2) research sessions.

Screenshots

When you capture a screenshot, it is saved as an MCP resource. You can access the captured screenshots in Claude Desktop via the paperclip icon.

Research Sessions

The server maintains a research session, which includes:

• Search queries
• Visited pages
• Extracted content
• Screenshots
• Timestamps

Prerequisites

• Node.js >= 18 (including npm and npx)
• Claude Desktop app

💡 Usage Tip

For the best results, if you choose not to use the agentic - research prompt for research, it is recommended to provide Claude with high - quality sources for general topic research. For example, you can prompt Today's news from Reuters or AP instead of Today's news.

🔧 Technical Details

This code is still in the pre - Alpha stage. It is also AIGC, so there may be errors. If you encounter problems, you may need to check the MCP logs of Claude Desktop:

Development

To run the project:
