🚀 Snowflake MCP Server

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation that enables interaction with Snowflake databases. It allows you to run SQL queries via tools and exposes data insights and schema context as resources.

Resources

• memo://insights A continuously updated memo that summarizes discovered data insights. It updates automatically when new insights are added via the append_insight tool.
• context://table/{table_name} (If prefetching is enabled) A context resource for each table, exposing information about the table.

📦 Installation

1. Install via Smithery

Visit smithery.ai to download and install the MCP Snowflake Server.

2. Install using UVX

Steps:

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/your-username/mcp-snowflake-server.git
   cd mcp-snowflake-server
   

2. Create and activate a virtual environment (optional but recommended):

   python -m venv venv
   source venv/bin/activate  # On Unix/MacOS
   # Or
   .\venv\Scripts\activate  # On Windows
   

3. Install dependencies:

   pip install -r requirements.txt
   

4. Run the server:

   python run.py
   

💻 Usage Examples

1. Configure Environment Variables

Before running the server, make sure to set the following environment variables:

• SNOWFLAKE_ACCOUNT
• SNOWFLAKE_USER
• SNOWFLAKE_PASSWORD
• SNOWFLAKE_DATABASE
• SNOWFLAKE_SCHEMA
• SNOWFLAKE_WAREHOUSE

2. Start the Server

Run the following command to start the MCP Snowflake Server:

uv --directory /absolute/path/to/mcp_snowflake_server run mcp_snowflake_server

3. Configure in Claude Desktop

Add the following content to the claude_desktop_config.json file:

📚 Documentation

⚠️ Important Note

By default, write operations are disabled. Please explicitly enable them via --allow-write.

💡 Usage Tip

The server supports filtering specific databases, schemas, or tables via exclusion patterns. If the prefetching feature is enabled, the server exposes additional per-table context resources. The append_insight tool dynamically updates the memo://insights resource.
