🚀 MCP Server Management Scripts

This repository contains scripts to easily start and manage MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers in development. These scripts simplify server management, allowing you to start, stop, and monitor servers with just a few commands.

Basic Usage

To start all MCP servers:

./start-mcp-servers.sh

By default, this command will:

Clear any existing log files.
Run all servers in the foreground and display output in the current terminal.

Advanced Usage

Run in Background Mode

If you want to run the servers in the background:

./start-mcp-servers.sh --background

In background mode, the script will attempt to start the servers using one of the following methods (in order of priority):

iTerm2 tabs (if using iTerm2).

Managing MCP Servers

Display Help

Stop Servers

Stop a specific server (by number):

View Logs

Bring Server to Foreground

./manage-mcp-servers.sh fg 1  # Bring the first server to the foreground

If it can't bring the server to the foreground, it will display the log file with real-time updates.

Adding a New MCP Server

To add a new MCP server, you only need to edit the start-mcp-servers.sh file:

Open start-mcp-servers.sh.
Find the MCP_SERVERS array at the top of the file.
Add the path of the new server to the array, for example:

"/path/to/your/new/mcp_server"

Save and close the file. The new server will start the next time you run the script.

Log Management

Automatic Log Cleaning

By default, the script automatically deletes old log files to save space. You can control the number of days to retain logs by modifying the LOG_RETENTION_DAYS variable:

# Find the following line in start-mcp-servers.sh:
LOG_RETENTION_DAYS=7  # For example, retain logs for 7 days

Foreground vs. Background Mode

Foreground Mode: In this mode, the servers will run in the current terminal window and stop when you close the window.
Background Mode: In this mode, the servers will continue running in the background even if you close the terminal window.
