🚀 SQLite Explorer MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides secure, read-only access to SQLite databases. Built with the FastMCP framework, it enables Large Language Models (LLMs) to safely explore and query SQLite databases, featuring built-in security and query validation.

🚀 Quick Start

Clone the repository:

cd sqlite-explorer-fastmcp-mcp-server

📦 Installation

System Requirements

• Python 3.6+
• SQLite database file (path specified via environment variables)

Dependencies

Install all required dependencies:

pip install -r requirements.txt

Required Packages

• fastmcp: A tool for building the MCP framework

All dependencies are included in requirements.txt for easy installation.

📦 Installation Options

You can install this MCP server in Claude Desktop or the Cline VSCode plugin. Choose the option that suits you best.

Option 1: Installation for Claude Desktop

Install using FastMCP:

fastmcp install sqlite_explorer.py --name "SQLite Explorer" -e SQLITE_DB_PATH=/path/to/db

Replace /path/to/db with the path to your SQLite database file.

Option 2: Installation for Cline VSCode Plugin

To use this server with the Cline VSCode plugin:

1. In VSCode, click the server icon (☰) in the Cline plugin sidebar.
2. Click the "Edit MCP Settings" button (✎).
3. Add the following configuration to the settings file:

Replace:

• /path/to/repo with the full path where you cloned this repository (e.g., /Users/username/Projects/sqlite-explorer-fastmcp-mcp-server).
• /path/to/your/database.db with the full path to your SQLite database file.

🛠️ MCP Tools

The server provides the following tools to the LLM:

read_query

Execute a SELECT query on the database with built-in security validation. Features:

• Query validation and sanitization
• Support for parameter binding
• Enforcement of row limits
• Results formatted as a dictionary

list_tables

List all tables and their names in the database.

describe_table

Get detailed schema information for a specific table, including:

• Column names and types
• NULL constraints
• Default values
• Primary key information

• Read-only access to the SQLite database
• Query validation and sanitization
• Parameter binding for secure query execution
• Enforcement of row limits
• Suppression of progress output to maintain a clean JSON response
