Steps to Add a New MCP Server

Step 1: Create a New Directory

Create a new sub - directory under the librechat/mcp-server/ directory, for example, brave-search.

mkdir -p librechat/mcp-server/brave-search

Step 2: Add a Dockerfile

Create a Dockerfile in the brave-search directory and add the following content:

FROM node:18
WORKDIR /app
RUN npm install -g supergateway @org/mcp-server
CMD ["npx", "-y", "supergateway", "--stdio", "npx -y @org/mcp-server", "--port", "8002"]

Step 3: Add a README.md File

Create a README.md file in the brave-search directory and add the following content:

## Installation Instructions

### Clone the Repository
```bash
git clone https://github.com/yourusername/librechat.git
cd librechat/mcp-server/brave-search

Build the Image

docker build -t brave-search .

Run the Container

docker run --name brave-search-container -p 8002:8002 brave-search

Configuration Instructions

Modify the docker - compose File

Find or create the docker-compose.override.yml file in the librechat/ directory and add the following content:

services:
  brave-search:
    build:
      context: ./mcp-server/brave-search
    ports:
      - "8002:8002"
    networks:
      - librechat_default
    environment:
      - API_KEY=${MCP_API_KEY}

Modify the LibreChat Configuration File

Find or create the librechat.yaml file in the librechat/ directory and add the following content:

Troubleshooting

Container Fails to Start

• Check if Docker is correctly installed and running.
• Ensure the content of the Dockerfile is correct.

Communication Issues between Services

• Ensure all containers are on the same network.
• Check if the service names are consistent.

• Use environment variables to store sensitive information (e.g., API keys).
• Avoid hard - coding passwords or other sensitive information in the Dockerfile.
