🚀 MCP File System Server

This is an unofficial port of the Claude file system MCP server implementation, intended solely for Proof of Concept (POC). This project is not affiliated with Anthropic and should not be used in a production environment. It aims to demonstrate and explore the functionality of the MCP server.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Install using UVX:

uv venv
.venv\Scripts\activate  # For Windows systems
uv pip install -e .

💻 Usage with Claude Desktop

1. Modify your claude_desktop_config.json file:

You can add multiple directories:

2. Restart Claude Desktop to apply the changes.

3. In Claude Desktop:

   • Click the paperclip icon.
   • Select the MCP menu (two connected plug icons).
   • Your file system server will be available in the integration options.

⚠️ Security Note

Only access to the directories specified in the args array is allowed. The server performs strict path validation to prevent access outside the allowed directories.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

1. Command not found:

   • Ensure the package is installed (check using uv pip list).
   • Confirm that the Python environment is activated.

2. Access denied:

   • Verify that the directories in args exist.
   • Ensure you have read permissions for the specified directories.

3. Server not displayed in Claude Desktop:

   • Check the syntax of the configuration file.
   • Restart Claude Desktop after changing the configuration.
