🚀 Creating a Simple Echo Server with TypeScript and MCP SDK

📦 Installation

1. Install Node.js and npm: Install Node.js (version 18 or higher) and npm (Node Package Manager) to ensure they are available on your system.

2. Create a project directory:

   mkdir my-mcp-server
   cd my-mcp-server
   

3. Initialize a Node.js project:

   npm init -y
   

4. Install the MCP TypeScript SDK:

   npm install @modelcontextprotocol/sdk
   

5. Install TypeScript and other dependencies:

   npm install typescript zod
   

6. Create a tsconfig.json file:

Basic Usage

In the src/index.ts file, add the following content to create a simple echo server:

🔧 Compilation and Execution

1. Compile the TypeScript code:

   npx tsc
   

2. Run the compiled JavaScript file:

   node build/index.js
   

3. Add the following scripts to package.json:

     "start": "node build/index.js"
   }
   

   Now, you can start the server by running the following commands:

   npm run build
   npm start
   

🧪 Testing the Echo Function

Send a valid JSON-RPC 2.0 request to the server to test the echo tool. For example:
