• arango_query - Execute AQL queries

  • Accepts an AQL query string as a required parameter.
  • Optionally accepts binding variables to support parameterized queries.
  • Returns query results in JSON format.

• arango_insert - Insert documents into a collection

  • Accepts the collection name and document object as required parameters.
  • Automatically generates a document key if not provided.
  • Returns the metadata of the created document.

• arango_update - Update an existing document

  • Accepts the collection name, document key, and update object as required parameters.
  • Returns the metadata of the updated document.

• arango_remove - Remove a document from a collection

  • Accepts the collection name and document key as required parameters.
  • Returns the metadata of the deleted document.

• arango_backup - Backup all collections to JSON files

  • Accepts the output directory path as a required parameter.
  • Creates JSON files for each collection and saves the current data.
  • Suitable for data backup and migration purposes.

• arango_list_collections - List all collections in the database

  • Returns an array of collection information including name, ID, and type.

Database Structure

This server does not depend on a specific database structure and works as long as it follows the ArangoDB document collection and edge document model.

Development

Install dependencies:

npm run build

Development with automatic rebuild:

npm run watch

Installation

To use with the Claude desktop application, add the server configuration in the mcpServers section:

• MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
• Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

To use with the Cline VSCode extension, add the following configuration in the mcpServers section:

Debugging

Debugging can be challenging since the MCP server communicates via standard input and output. We recommend using MCP Inspector for development:

npm run inspector

The Inspector will provide a URL for you to access the debugging tools in your browser.
