Manual Installation

1. Clone the repository:

git clone <your-repository-url>
cd gmail-mcp-server

2. Create and activate a virtual environment:

python -m venv venv
# On Windows
venv\Scripts\activate
# On Unix/MacOS
source venv/bin/activate

3. Install dependencies:

pip install .

📚 Documentation

Set up a Google Cloud Project

1. Visit the Google Cloud Console.
2. Create a new project or select an existing one.
3. Enable the Gmail API for the project.
4. Create OAuth 2.0 credentials:
   • Go to "APIs & Services" > "Credentials".
   • Click "Create Credentials" > "OAuth client ID".
   • Select "Desktop app" as the application type.
   • Download the client configuration file.
5. Rename the downloaded file to client_secret.json and place it in the project root directory.

Configuration

1. Set the email identifier in gmail_token_creator.py:

email_identifier = 'your.email@gmail.com'  # Modify this value for each account

2. Run the token creation tool to authenticate your Gmail account:

python gmail_token_creator.py

3. Repeat the above steps for each Gmail account you want to integrate.

Install Dependencies

Install the required Python packages using pip:

pip install -r requirements.txt

Start the Server

Run the following command to start the Gmail MCP server:

python gmail_server.py

Access the Application

Open your browser and visit http://localhost:8000.

🔧 Technical Details

Security Precautions

• Encrypt and store all sensitive files (e.g., client_secret.json) in a secure location.
• Avoid committing credentials to the version control system. Add them to the .gitignore file.
• Use environment variables to manage sensitive information instead of hard - coding it in the code.

Error Handling

Logging

The server uses log files to record operation status and error information. By default, the log files are located in the logs/ directory.

Debugging

Check the log level settings in settings.py to adjust the output verbosity.
