This server based on the YouTube Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides a convenient way to interact with YouTube's API, enabling operations such as video management, channel management, and playlist management.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

npx -y @smithery/cli install @ZubeidHendricks/youtube --client claude

Manual Installation

1. Clone the repository

   git clone https://github.com/ZubeidHendricks/youtube-mcp-server.git
   cd youtube-mcp-server
   

2. Install dependencies

   npm install
   

⚙️ Configuration

Environment Variable Configuration

• YOUTUBE_API_KEY: The key used to access the YouTube API.
• YOUTUBE_TRANSCRIPT_LANG (optional): The default subtitle language. Use "en" for English.

VS Code Extension Installation

Add the following to your VS Code user settings (JSON) file:

🛠️ YouTube API Setup

1. Visit the Google Cloud Console.
2. Create a new project or select an existing one.
3. Enable the YouTube Data API v3.
4. Create API credentials and obtain the key.
5. Copy the key to the configuration file.
