🚀 Running a Remote MCP Server on Cloudflare

Let's set up a remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers with OAuth login integrated!

📦 Installation

# Clone the repository
git clone git@github.com:cloudflare/ai.git

# Install dependencies
cd ai
npm install

# Run locally
npx nx dev remote-mcp-server

You should be able to open http://localhost:8787/ in your browser to view the application.

💻 Usage Examples

Connecting MCP Inspector to Your Server

To explore the new MCP API, you can use the MCP Inspector.

• Start it: npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector
• In the Inspector, switch the transport type to SSE, enter http://localhost:8787/sse as the URL of the MCP server, and then click "Connect".
• You'll enter a (simulated) user password login screen. Enter any email and password to log in.
• You'll be redirected back to the MCP Inspector and can list and call any defined tools!

Connecting Claude Desktop to Your Local MCP Server

The MCP inspector is useful, but we'd prefer to connect it to Claude! Follow the Anthropic Quick Start Guide and go to "Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration" in Claude Desktop to find your configuration file. Open the file and replace it with the following content in a text editor:

This will run a local proxy that allows Claude to communicate with your MCP server over HTTP. When you open Claude, a browser window will open and allow you to log in. You should see a list of available tools in the bottom right corner. Follow the prompts to enter the correct commands, and Claude will call the tools on the MCP server.

🚀 Deployment to Cloudflare

1. Run the following command in the terminal to create a KV namespace:

wrangler kv namespace create --name mcp-config

2. Update the wrangler.toml file to add your Cloudflare account information and the new KV namespace ID.
3. Finally, run the deployment command:

npm run build && wrangler deploy

🔧 Debugging

If you encounter issues, try the following:

1. Restart the Claude application or check if the configuration file path is correct.
2. If the problem persists, you can delete the cache file:

rm -rf ~/.mcp-auth
