What is Google Calendar MCP Server?

This is a bridge service that connects the Google Calendar API with GitHub Copilot Chat, allowing you to query and manipulate calendar events through natural language. It runs as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, securely providing your calendar data to the AI assistant.

How to use this service?

After completing the authorization configuration, you can directly enter natural language instructions (e.g., 'View next week's meeting schedule') in Copilot Chat, and the system will automatically retrieve and display the corresponding calendar events.

Use cases

Suitable for professionals who need to frequently view/manage schedules, especially when you want to quickly query calendar events without leaving the code editor. Typical scenarios include: development meeting arrangements, project timeline queries, personal schedule management, etc.

Main features

Multi-calendar support
You can query multiple Google calendars such as the primary calendar and work calendar simultaneously
Natural language query
Query the calendar using everyday language through Copilot Chat (e.g., 'What do I have scheduled for tomorrow?')
Secure authentication
Adopts the OAuth 2.0 standard authorization process to ensure secure account access
Advantages
You can query schedules without manually logging in to Google Calendar
Seamlessly integrated with the VS Code development environment
Fast response speed, and query results are displayed instantly
Limitations
Multiple authorization steps are required for the first configuration
Currently, only query functions are supported, and event creation/modification is not supported
A stable network connection is required to access the Google API

How to use

Get Google API credentials
Create a project in the Google Cloud Console and enable the Calendar API, then download the credentials.json file
Generate an access token
Run generate_token.py to complete OAuth authorization and generate token.json
Configure calendar settings
Edit the calendar_settings.json file and add the calendar IDs you need to access
Enable Copilot Agent mode
Install the GitHub Copilot Chat extension in VS Code and enable Agent Mode

Usage examples

Query the day's schedule
Quickly understand the day's meeting arrangements and time allocation
Find specific project meetings
Locate all future meetings related to a specific project
