📦 Installation

1. Run the Cassandra MCP Server Using NPX

First, publish your package to npm (or use it locally).

npx @sahil1115/mcp-cassandra-server

Required environment variables (set before running or place them in the .env file):

export CASSANDRA_PASSWORD=your_password
export CASSANDRA_CONTACT_POINTS=host1,host2
export CASSANDRA_LOCAL_DC=your_datacenter
export CASSANDRA_KEYSPACE=your_keyspace  # Optional

2. Add to Claude Desktop Configuration

Add the following content to your Claude Desktop configuration file (usually claude-desktop.config.json):

This Model Context Protocol (MCP) server integrates the Apache Cassandra database with Claude Desktop, enabling database operations through natural language interaction.

Tools

1. execute_query: Execute CQL queries on the Cassandra database

   • Supports all types of CQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE)
   • Returns query results in a structured format
   • Prevents injection attacks through parameter passing

2. create_table: Create a new Cassandra database table

   • Define column names and data types of the table
   • Configure primary keys (simple or composite primary keys, including partition keys and clustering keys)
   • Automatically creates the table if it does not exist

3. insert_data: Insert data into a Cassandra table

   • Add new records to an existing table
   • Supports all Cassandra data types
   • Automatically converts JavaScript types to Cassandra types

4. update_data: Update data in existing records

   • Modify records based on specified conditions
   • Can update multiple columns in a single operation
   • Uses parameterized queries to ensure security

5. delete_data: Delete data from a Cassandra table

   • Delete records based on specified conditions
   • Supports deletion operations with simple and complex conditions

💻 Usage Examples

• Display all users in the "users" table: Show all users in the 'users' table
• Insert a new user: Insert a new user with the username John Doe and email john@example.com
• Update user information: Update the email of user John Doe to newjohn@example.com
• Delete a specific user: Delete the user with the username John Doe

⚠️ Other Notes

• Ensure that the Cassandra service is running and network accessible.
• Verify that the environment variables are correctly set, especially the contact points (CASSANDRA_CONTACT_POINTS) and the local data center (CASSANDRA_LOCAL_DC).
• If not specified, the default username is cassandra, and the password is empty or according to your configuration.
