🚀 MCP Unified Manager (Composer)

The MCP Unified Manager is a gateway service for centralized management of all MCP servers. It allows you to integrate all required MCP servers and open different ports for each service (such as AI agents or tools), using different combinations of servers and tools.

• Multiple Dynamic Endpoint Support: Support the dynamic creation and removal of multiple SSE endpoints to accommodate different AI agents or AI tools.

System Architecture

Key Terms

• MCP Client: External tools, AI agents, and AI workflows, such as Cursor, n8n, etc.
• Gateway [A/B]: MCP server implementations managed by ServerKit and controlled by Composer, used to handle MCP client connections.
• Service Suite: Manages and controls information about downstream MCP servers and which tools should be enabled.
• Downstream Controller: Responsible for managing and controlling connections with downstream MCP servers.
• Downstream MCP Server: An internal object that connects to downstream MCP servers, implemented as an internal MCP client and linked to downstream MCP servers.
• MCP Server: External MCP server services, such as: https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers, etc.
• Unified Manager: Provides APIs to control and orchestrate gateways, service suites, and downstream controllers.

Requirements

• Python >= 3.12
• uv: A fast Python package installer and manager.

Installation

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/htkuan/mcp-composer
   cd mcp-composer
   

2. Install dependencies: Use uv to synchronize project dependencies.

   make install
   # Or use uv directly
   # uv sync
   

Configuration

Before running the application, you need to configure the target MCP servers.

1. Copy the example configuration file:

   cp mcp_servers.example.json mcp_servers.json
   

2. Edit mcp_servers.json and enter the details of the MCP servers you want to connect to.

3. Set environment variables:

   cp .env.example .env
   

4. Edit the .env file to configure the following settings:

   • HOST: Server host address (default: 0.0.0.0)
   • PORT: Server port (default: 8000)
   • MCP_COMPOSER_PROXY_URL: MCP Unified Manager proxy URL (default: http://localhost:8000)
   • MCP_SERVERS_CONFIG_PATH: MCP server configuration file path (default: ./mcp_servers.json)

Running

Use uv to run the FastAPI application:

make run
# Or use uv directly
# uv run src/main.py

After the service starts, you can access the API documentation for interaction through a browser (usually http://127.0.0.1:8000/docs).

Development

The project includes a Makefile to simplify the development process:

test:
    pytest

coverage:
    coverage run -m pytest && coverage report -f

Run make install to install development dependencies, then use make lint to check the code style, make test to run the test suite, or make coverage to generate a coverage report.
