What is an MCP Server?

An MCP server is a web service that allows AI systems (such as Claude) to interact with external data sources and tools via the HTTP or HTTPS protocol. It follows the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a protocol developed by Anthropic to enhance the capabilities of AI models.

How to Use the MCP Server?

To use the MCP server template, you need basic knowledge of Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript programming. The template provides a starting point that you can customize and extend according to your specific needs. The main steps include installing dependencies, configuring environment variables (such as API keys), implementing specific business logic, and starting and testing the service.

Use Cases

The MCP server is suitable for various scenarios, such as connecting to third - party APIs (e.g., weather forecasts, social media, databases, etc.) or integrating custom tools. It is particularly suitable for developers who want to extend the capabilities of Claude, enabling them to handle more complex tasks through AI.
Install Node.js and npm
Ensure that your system has the latest version of Node.js and npm (Node Package Manager) installed.
Clone the Repository and Enter the Directory
Use Git to clone the MCP server template repository and navigate to the project directory.
Install Dependencies
Run the `npm install` command to install the required dependency packages, including common libraries such as Express and Axios.
Configure Environment Variables
Create a `.env` file and add the necessary environment variables, such as API keys and port numbers.
Implement Business Logic
According to specific needs, write routes and logic functions for handling HTTP requests, such as querying databases or calling external APIs.
Start the Service
Run the `npm start` command to start the MCP server and test its functionality in a browser or Postman.

Installation

Copy the following command to your Client for configuration
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "your-server-name": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/your/build/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "YOUR_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here"
      }
    }
  }
}
Note: Your key is sensitive information, do not share it with anyone.
