The Forgejo MCP Server is an integrated plugin that connects Forgejo to the Model Context Protocol (MCP) system. This enables users to execute commands and manage repositories through MCP-compatible chat interfaces.

You can download the official binary from here.

🔧 Build from source

You can download the source code by cloning the repository via Git:

git clone https://forgejo.org/forgejo/forgejo-mcp.git

Before building, make sure the following tools are installed:

• make
• Golang (Go 1.24 or higher is recommended)

Then run:

make build

📁 Add to PATH

After the build is complete, copy the binary file forgejo-mcp to a directory included in the system PATH. For example:

cp forgejo-mcp /usr/local/bin/

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

This example is for Cursor, but you can also use the plugin in VSCode. To configure the Forgejo MCP server, add the following to your MCP configuration file:

⚠️ Important Note

You can provide your Forgejo host and access token via command-line arguments or environment variables. Command-line arguments have the highest priority.

After configuration, try entering the following in an MCP-compatible chat box:

🔧 Technical Details

To enable debug mode, add the -d or --debug flag when running forgejo-mcp:

forgejo-mcp -d

This will make the server output detailed debug information to help you troubleshoot issues.
