🚀 Upstash MCP Server

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a new standardized protocol for managing context between large language models (LLMs) and external systems. In this repository, we provide an installer and an MCP server tailored for the Upstash Developer API.

This enables you to interact with your Upstash account using natural language via any MCP client, for example:

• "Create a new Redis database in the us-east-1 region"
• "List all Redis databases"
• "Get detailed information about a database"

🚀 Quick Start

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

You can install the MCP server via Smithery using the following command:

smith install @upstash/mcp-server

After installation, you can find the MCP configuration file in ~/.config/loris/config.json.

Manual Installation

If you prefer not to use Smithery, you can install it manually:

1. Clone this repository.
2. Run pnpm install to install dependencies.
3. Run pnpm run build to build the project.
4. Locate the index.js file in the build directory and add it to your MCP configuration file.

Configuration Requirements

Before running the MCP server, ensure you have the following:

• Node.js 16 or higher.
• An Upstash API key (obtain it from the Upstash website).

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

1. Clone the repository and run pnpm install.
2. Create a .env file with the following content:

UPSTASH_EMAIL=your_upstash_email
UPSTASH_API_KEY=your_upstash_api_key

3. Add the following content to your MCP configuration file:

4. Now, you can send Upstash commands via an MCP client.

Advanced Usage

Test with the Inspector

Run the following command to start the MCP inspector:

pnpm run inspector

This allows you to test all available Upstash tools.

Tool List

The following are all the currently supported Upstash tools:

• Redis database operations (creation, deletion, backup, restoration, etc.)
• Redis statistics and usage queries
• Region configuration and adjustment
• Backup plan management

Development

Clone the Project and Run

git clone [repository URL]
cd [repository directory]
pnpm install
pnpm run watch

This initiates a continuous build process and automatically recompiles when files change.

Test Environment

Create a .env file with the following content:

UPSTASH_EMAIL=your_upstash_email
UPSTASH_API_KEY=your_upstash_api_key

Then run the following command to set up the test environment:

pnpm run setup

This configures the MCP inspector and starts the test server.

Testing and Inspection

Local Development with Claude Desktop

Run the following command to install the Claude configuration in a local environment:

pnpm run setup-claude

Then, you can send Upstash commands via Claude Desktop.

Testing with the MCP Inspector

Run the following command to start the MCP inspector:

pnpm run inspector

This allows you to manually test all available tools and features.
