🚀 MCP Protocol ADO.NET Server (for Virtuoso)

This is an ADO.NET server based on the MCP protocol, specifically designed for interacting with the Virtuoso database.

📦 Installation

Install .NET SDK

To run the ADO.NET server for the MCP protocol, you first need to install the .NET SDK. Make sure you can access the dotnet command from the command line after installation.

Clone the Repository

Clone the code from the following repository:

git clone https://github.com/virtuoso/mcp-adonet-server.git

Install Dependencies

Navigate to the project directory and install the required NuGet packages:

dotnet restore

⚙️ Configuration

Configure the Data Source Name (DSN)

Configure the DSN according to your operating system as follows:

Windows

1. Open the "Control Panel".
2. Select "System and Security", then "System".
3. Click "Environment Variables".
4. In the "System variables" section, find and edit the ODBCAD32 variable (Windows 7 or later).
5. Add or configure the Virtuoso data source.

Linux/MacOS

Install unixODBC:

# For Debian/Ubuntu systems:
sudo apt-get install -y unixodbc-dev

# For MacOS systems, use Homebrew:
brew install --cask unixodbc

Create and edit the DSN configuration file (~/.odbcinst.ini):

▶️ Run the Server

Basic Run Command

Execute the following command in the project root directory to start the server:

dotnet run --project MCP_AdoNet_Server.csproj

Configure Environment Variables

Specify the data source and API key by setting the ADO_URL and API_KEY environment variables:

# Windows/Linux systems:
set ADO_URL="DSN=MyDSN;UID=username;PWD=password"
set API_KEY="sk-xxx-myapikey-xxx"

# MacOS systems:
export ADO_URL="DSN=MyDSN;UID=username;PWD=password"

• Query the Database: Execute SQL queries and return results through the ado_query_database, ado_query_database_md, and ado_query_database_jsonl endpoints.
• SPARQL Query: Execute SPARQL queries (Virtuoso-specific feature) using the ado_sparql_query endpoint.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

Install the Inspector Tool

Install and run the Inspector tool using the following commands:

npm install -g @inspector-rs/cli
inspector init

Start the Inspector

Start the Inspector in the project root directory:

inspector run

Basic Query

Test the basic query functionality with the following command:

SPARQL Query

Use the following command when executing a SPARQL query:

⚠️ Important Note

• Ensure that the Virtuoso service is running and configured correctly.
• Check that the odbc driver is installed correctly and available for the system.
• If you encounter connection issues, verify that the data source name and credentials are correct.
