Why Not execute_sql?

Many database MCP servers offer a single execute_sql tool. It's great for rapid prototyping but brittle in production. SQL queries generated by LLMs and agents can introduce performance bottlenecks, unpredictable costs, and inconsistent results.

By moving towards operational data products, we eliminate variability and ensure that each tool is:

• Stable: Defined once, reused, ensuring consistent business logic.
• Typed: Input and output schemas are derived from the index.
• Observable: Usage is logged per tool, making costs and performance explicit.
• Secure: You can't call a tool if you haven't created the view/index.

📦 Installation

This package can be installed locally. We recommend using uv as the build tool.

Configuration

Defining Tools

1. Write a view to express your business logic.
2. Index the columns you want to query.
3. Comment on the view to improve discoverability.
