🚀 MCP Server Playground

This repository demonstrates how to integrate three ModelContextProtocol SDK repositories from Model Context Protocol - Open Protocol as Git submodules under the modelcontextprotocol directory, so that you can use them.

The reason I created this repository with its submodules is to provide a contextual foundation when you develop a new MCP server. This will offer a kind of "memory" for any AI tools that might be used to facilitate or assist in the development of a new MCP server.

1. SDK Repositories

   • TypeScript SDK: https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk.git

2. Maintained MCP Servers

   • Server: https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers.git

📦 Installation

Simple Installation

You can simply run the setup.sh script to install the entire repository and its submodules. The brief steps are as follows:

1. Copy the example.env file to .env:

cp example.env .env

2. Update the .env file with environment variables.

3. Run the installation script:

sh ./setup.sh

⚠️ Important Note

• These are the servers I use personally, but you can adjust them as needed.
• This will also set up the Docker image for you.

💡 Usage Tip

In the future, I will add them all to a combined file for better organization.

Manual Installation

If you prefer to set up the submodules manually, please follow these steps:

Cloning with Submodules

• Clone this repository and all its submodules in one step:

git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/pandego/mcp-servers-playground.git
cd mcp-servers-playground

• If you already have a clone without initialized submodules:

git submodule update --init --recursive

Updating Submodules

• Pull the latest updates for the main repository and its submodules:

git pull --recurse-submodules
git submodule update --remote --merge

• Or use the following commands:

git pull
git submodule foreach 'git pull origin main'

How to Set Up Git Submodules

This section is for reference only and can be skipped. This is how I added submodules to this repository:

1. Create the modelcontextprotocol directory:

mkdir -p modelcontextprotocol

2. Add submodules:

git submodule add https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk.git modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk
git submodule add https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk.git modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk
git submodule add https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers.git modelcontextprotocol/servers

3. Commit the changes:

git commit -m "[FEAT] Add submodules: python-sdk, typescript-sdk, servers"
