🚀 Serverless Streamable HTTP MCP Server Example

This is a Github MCP Server implementation based on Amazon Lambda and the Streamable HTTP protocol, aiming to solve the problem of seamless integration of MCP Server with Streamable HTTP and achieve elastic deployment through Amazon Lambda.

Prerequisites

• Node.js version 20 or higher
• Configured AWS CLI
• OSS-Serverless CLI tool

Deploying the Github MCP Server to Amazon Lambda

This project requires setting the GITHUB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN, which is stored in the Amazon Lambda environment variables. Do not commit the serverless.yml file to a public GitHub repository.

# Clone the repository
git clone https://gitlab.aws.dev/wsuam/sample-serverless-mcp-server.git
cd sample-serverless-mcp-server/src/github/

# Install dependencies
npm install
npm install -g osls

# Copy and rename the example configuration file
cp serverless.example.yml serverless.yml
# Edit the serverless.yml file and set GITHUB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN to <Your GitHub personal access token>

# Test local operation
npm sls offline

# Deploy to Amazon Lambda
npm sls deploy

Project Description

This project demonstrates how to convert the official TypeScript MCP Server to support the Streamable HTTP protocol and deploy it via Amazon Lambda. This implementation leverages new features introduced in MCP v2025.03.26, including:

• Stream transmission based on HTTP chunked transfer encoding
• Dynamic context priority control
• Seamless integration with existing HTTP infrastructure

Architecture Overview

This project uses the following architecture:

• API Gateway: Handles HTTP requests
• Lambda functions: Executes MCP Server logic
• Streamable HTTP: Implements streaming responses
• DynamoDB and S3 store request logs (this feature is not yet complete)

Development Guide

1. Configure AWS credentials
2. Run npm sls offline
3. Complete the deployment configuration as prompted
