🚀 Fabrica MCP Standard Input-Output Bridging Server

This server serves as a bridge for clients that currently do not support the new MCP HTTP streaming protocol used by the Fabrica gateway, enabling seamless interaction.

🚀 Quick Start

This is a bridge for clients such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf, which currently do not support the new MCP HTTP streaming protocol used by the Fabrica gateway. It starts a shim MCP server that uses standard input-output (stdio) transport on the local host and proxies requests to the Fabrica gateway via HTTP.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

Obtain your unique Toolbox ID (utbid) from the Fabrica gateway UI.

For Claude

Open a terminal and run:

npx -y @fabrica.work/cli@latest cli install claude <utbid>

This should add the MCP configuration entry for Claude at the following location:

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Make sure to restart the Claude desktop application for the changes to take effect.

For Cursor

Open a terminal and run:

npx -y @fabrica.work/cli@latest cli install cursor <utbid>

This should add the MCP configuration entry for Cursor at the following location:

~/.cursor/mcp.json

Make sure to restart the Cursor desktop application for the changes to take effect.

For Windsurf

Open a terminal and run:

npx -y @fabrica.work/cli@latest cli install windsurf <utbid>

This should add the MCP configuration entry for Windsurf at the following location:

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Make sure to restart the Windsurf desktop application for the changes to take effect.

For VSCode

The command to run the server is:

npx -y @fabrica.work/cli@latest server <utbid>

Note: If installed as a global server (vs workspace), the settings are located at

~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/settings.json

💻 Usage Examples

Run from Local Source

Build:

pnpm run build

To run the server:

npm exec fabrica server

To run the installer:

npm exec fabrica cli install claude <utbid>

To run under the MCP inspector, use the following command:

npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx @fabrica.work/cli@latest server <utbid>

Replace <utbid> with the appropriate identifier for your use case.

Environment Variables

FABRICA_GATEWAY_URL
Set it to something like http://localhost:3000/api/mcp to use a local gateway server during development.

Publish npm Package

Increment the version in package.json

pnpm publish

Locations to check logs for troubleshooting:

• Claude:

/Users/<username>/Library/Logs/Claude

• Cursor To be determined.
• Windsurf To be determined.
