📋 Prerequisites

Before running the GitLab MCP Server, ensure the following environment configurations:

1. Operating System Requirements:

   • Support Node.js versions (LTS version is recommended).
   • Compatible with Windows, macOS, or Linux systems.

2. Tool Installation:

   • Install Node.js and npm.
   • Ensure Git is installed on the system.

3. Environment Variable Configuration:

   • Configure GITLAB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN: This is the access token for communicating with the GitLab API and needs to be generated in the GitLab account settings.
   • Optionally configure GITLAB_API_URL: If using a self - hosted GitLab instance, specify its API address.

📦 Installation and Setup

Clone the Repository

Install Dependencies

Navigate to the cloned project directory and install the required dependencies:

cd gitlab-mcp-server
npm install

Configure Environment Variables

Create a .env file and add the following content:

GITLAB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN=your_token_here

Build the Server

Build the project and make it executable:

npm run build

🚀 Running the Server

Direct Execution

Run the built file using Node.js:

node build/index.js

Using npx

If installed globally, you can run it directly via npx:

npx @yourusername/gitlab-mcp-server
