🚀 Simple MCP Server on Lambda

A simple MCP server that runs natively on AWS Lambda and Amazon API Gateway without any additional bridging components or custom transports. This is made possible by the Streamable HTTP transport introduced in v2025-03-26. This is just a prototype.

The architecture is as simple as possible:

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• AWS CLI
• Terraform

Steps

1. Install dependencies:

cd src
npm install
cd ..

2. Bootstrap the server and set the environment variable with the MCP server endpoint:

cd terraform
terraform init
terraform plan
terraform apply
export SIMPLE_MCP_SERVER_ENDPOINT=$(terraform output --raw endpoint_url) 
cd ..

⚠️ Important Note

The API Gateway endpoint may take a few seconds to become operational.

Basic Usage

1. Run the client:

node src/client.js

2. View the response:

> node client.js
> listTools response:  { tools: [ { name: 'ping', inputSchema: [Object] } ] }
> callTool:ping response:  { content: [ { type: 'text', text: 'pong' } ] }
