What is Context7?

Context7 fetches the latest versions of documentation and code examples directly from the source and puts them directly into your prompt context.

LLMs rely on outdated or generic information about the libraries you use. You'll get:

• ❌ Generic answers for older versions of packages.

📦 Installation

This extension can be installed from Zed's extensions.

💡 Usage Tip

If you are using Zed's proxy mode, you need to enable this context server for your assistant:

1. Open Zed's Assistant settings.
2. Enable the Context7 MCP server. If you see a red dot in the tool status, make sure to toggle it to turn it green.
3. In the active Assistant profile, enable the Context7 MCP Server. In the chat section, click the Write | Ask button, then click tools and enable the Context7 MCP Server.

📚 Documentation

The Context7 MCP server provides the following tools for the LLM:

• resolve-library-id: Converts a generic library name to a Context7-compatible library ID.

  • libraryName (optional): Searches for and rearranges results.

• get-library-docs: Retrieves library documentation using a Context7-compatible library ID.

  • context7CompatibleLibraryID (required).
  • topic (optional): Focuses on documentation for a specific topic (e.g., "routing", "hooks").
  • tokens (optional, default 5000): The maximum number of tokens to return.
