🚀 mcp-sandpiperaas

An MCP server that encapsulates the SandPiper-SaaS compilation functionality of Redwood EDA, used to convert TL‑Verilog (TLV) files to SystemVerilog/Verilog. It exposes each flag of SandPiper as its own MCP tool parameter for easy introspection and automation. In short, tell it in natural language (English) what you want the compiler to do.

This project uses UV to manage its virtual environment and dependencies.

📦 Installation

Installing UV

If you haven't installed the UV CLI yet, you can install it using pip (no pipx required):

pip install --user uv

Alternatively, if you prefer an isolated installation via pipx:

pipx install uv

Verify that it has been added to the PATH:

uv --version

Initialization & Dependency Installation

Clone this repository:

git clone https://github.com/shariethernet/mcp-sandpiperasaas.git

Run from the project root directory:

uv install

This will create (or reuse) a .venv/ directory and install all the necessary packages.

💻 Usage Examples

Running the Server

Using uv

The simplest way to start the MCP server is by using the uv command (part of the UV toolkit):

uv --directory <path_to_this_repo>/mcp-sandpiperasaas run mcp-sandpiperasaas.py

This will start the MCP server via stdio, ready to accept tools/list and tools/invoke requests.

Using uvx

If you prefer the lightweight uvx bundle:

uvx run mcp-sandpiperasaas.py

It will detect and run the MCP server in the current directory.

Configuring Claude Desktop/Cline

You can configure your MCP server using the following JSON (for Cline or Claude Desktop, or any client that supports mcp tool invocation). Note that on Windows systems, use \\ instead of / in paths:

• command: The CLI you are using (uv or uvx).
• args: Arguments pointing to the project folder and the MCP script.
• autoApprove: A list of tool names that can run without additional confirmation ("sandpiper_compile").
